The latest quarterly housing statistics reported that 8,767 affordable homes were delivered throughout Scotland for the year up to September 2018; a 21% increase on the 7,271 completions during 2017.

A recent government publication based on the analysis of data from the Wealth and Assets Survey between 2014 and 2016 looked into intergenerational transfers such as inheritances, gifts and loans. The report attempts to address whether inheritances and gifts are received predominantly by those who are economically more advantaged, by what age groups, how people spend their inheritance and from whom they are most likely to inherit from.
According to the latest UK House Price Index for August 2018, the average price of houses in Scotland was £153,309 - 4.1% higher than in the same month last year. Despite the average UK house price also increasing - up 3.2% in the year to August 2018 - the report highlighted that property prices in Scotland are growing at a slightly faster rate.
New statistics have revealed that 20% of parents in the UK have gifted assets to their children to mitigate inheritance tax.
