In amongst all the chaos down in Westminster, Scotland has had a couple of pieces of good national news. Firstly, while the unemployment rate may have risen across the UK, it has hit a record-breaking low of 3.7% in Scotland. Secondly, official figures released show a 21% year on year rise in the number of affordable homes built in Scotland, with 18,182 homes completed between June 2017 and 2018 alone. Recent research from Post Office Money and property-tech provider, Gazeal, revealed that the fastest-selling properties in the UK are located in Edinburgh and Glasgow. According to the report, Edinburgh tops the board with properties spending just 39 days on the market. Glasgow was not far behind, moving property from ‘for sale’ to ‘sold’ in an average of 48 days.
The latest quarterly housing statistics reported that 8,767 affordable homes were delivered throughout Scotland for the year up to September 2018; a 21% increase on the 7,271 completions during 2017.
